Self-defense officer injured throughout stalemate at Excessive Level | information
Self-defense, NC (February 8, 2021) – On February 5, Self-defense Police Department Special Response Team officers responded on W. English Street in High Point in response to a suspected High Point Police Department’s response to mutual aid regarding a barricade.
During the stalemate, the suspect continued to fire at police officers and two Self-defense police officers returned fire. During the exchange, the suspect was beaten and killed. A Self-defense Police Department officer was shot in and sustained minor injuries that were not considered life threatening.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will conduct an investigation into the incident. The Self-defense Police Department Professional Standards Department is conducting an internal investigation to determine if Self-defense Police Department guidelines have been followed. As is the department policy, the officers involved in this incident will be transferred to administrative service.
