Are cheap weapons worthwhile?

Cheap weapons. I’ve seen a wide variety of handguns while working as a defensive shooting instructor. As a writer, I’ve now seen even more. From under $ 200 to over $ 2,000. Is there really a tenfold difference? Bookmark this page because we have more answers on 100+ weapons.

The answer is yes and no. There are certainly values, and the expensive stuff is sometimes just because of the branding. I’ve been burned by the cheap (Taurus) and delighted by the expensive (SPS), but that’s not always the rule. While I’d love to give you a list of cheap products to avoid and pursue, it’s not always that simple. For example, I had a terrible experience with Taurus, but that doesn’t mean every gun goes bad. In fact, this leads to a solid point about gun ratings: they have a sample size of one.

Please keep this in mind when doing your purchase research. Any review you see there may be sponsored or biased, and even if it doesn’t, it is usually a single person’s coverage of a firearm. The only person who can really tell you if a gun is good is you. You can narrow the field down by figuring out what interests you, but it’s best to read multiple reviews before you think about it. If you are looking for high quality products, I recommend you be brand blind. Some of the lesser known companies are making an effort to earn your business by offering great options at a lower price. The risk with these brands is wondering if they’ll be out in five years, but does that matter?

The Zenith handguns are a great example of this. Over the past few years they have offered some incredible handguns at relatively low prices. They recently discontinued their handgun line, which means parts could be an issue, but not if you bought one of their 1911s. These cannons will readily accept most 1911 replacement parts. Two other importers who offer inexpensive weapons that accept readily available parts are TR Imports and Tristar Arms.

Don’t forget that not everyone needs their gun to survive a day with a range of 5,000 rounds. In fact, for most gun owners, the magazine spring may be the weak point of their gun, but we never hear of that in reviews. We have an answer for that too, make sure it is a reputable manufacturer like Mec Gar. Even if your current magazines are fine, it doesn’t hurt to invest in some good ones in the long run.

If you’re looking for value, I’ve made a playlist of high quality and affordable firearms. Grab some popcorn and check it out.

If you’re ready to drop a bigger coin or are wondering if the more expensive stuff is really worth it, there’s a playlist for that too. The playlist below features the more expensive firearms that we tried. Most of these weapons were made available on loan from their respective manufacturers or importers. Would i buy any of them? No, but there are certainly a few to admire.

In the end, I can’t say that there is a limit to when a gun is great for the money or too much money. It seems that handguns around the $ 400 mark and rifles around the $ 1,000 mark will be good buys, but that’s far from the rule.
