Barstow man arrested after allegedly shooting a person in the head after liquor store encounter
Authorities arrested a Barstow man on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly shooting another man in the head.
Henry Guerrero, 29, is being held at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on bail of $ 1 million.
Authorities said Barstow police officers responded Wednesday afternoon at Barstow Community Hospital to a report from a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The man told a detective, Tom Lewis, that he had a “brief encounter” with a Hispanic at the Top Hat Liquor Store.
The victim said he later noticed the man “followed him in his vehicle” as he drove away from the store.
“When they got to the Williams Street and 6th Avenue area, the Spanish man pulled his vehicle next to the victim’s, pulled out a pistol, and shot the victim, who hit him once in the forehead,” Barstow Police Department said in an explanation.
A passenger with the victim drove him to the hospital. Medical staff later took him to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
Authorities said Detective Lewis identified the vehicle being driven by the Hispanic and identified him as a Guerrero.
An arrest warrant was issued, but the police could not find him on Wednesday.
The next day, Lewis spotted the vehicle in a motel on the 1200 block of East Main Street. He found out that Guerrero was in one of the hotel rooms and contacted him.
Guerrero is said to have left the room and the authorities arrested him without incident.
Detectives issuing a search warrant for the room found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol they believe Guerrero used in the shooting, as well as other evidence.
Guerrero is due to appear in court on Monday.
