Boyfriend sought in fatal shooting of Las Vegas woman

A man is suspected of shooting his 40-year-old girlfriend in the neck several times before stealing her SUV and leaving the state, according to an arrest warrant released Thursday.

According to court records, an arrest warrant for John Ellis Jr. was issued on April 21st for murder.

Ellis is wanted in connection with the death of Amy Mack, who died April 19 at her home on W. Wigwam Ave. 2485 and is suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and torso, according to the Metropolitan Police Department’s arrest warrant.

Detectives spoke to Mack’s family and neighbors, who said Ellis lived with her but she planned to part ways with him. After the afternoon of the 18th, no one had heard from the woman.

“Amy has been telling her family over the past few weeks that John has to move out of the residence as their relationship has gradually deteriorated,” the police wrote in the warrant.

A neighbor told police he saw Mack come home around 8 a.m. on April 18, and then Ellis left around 3 p.m. with a black bag in her car that she didn’t let anyone drive. He returned about 15 minutes later, but left the house shortly afterwards.

Investigators found documents for a Glock 17 9mm registered with Ellis and six cartridge cases near the bedroom.

Detectives checked Ellis’ phone location, which showed he left Las Vegas for San Antonio, Texas, shortly after Mack was killed.

According to court records, Ellis is also being wanted for an arrest warrant for a battery charge from June and a fee for taking over or owning a vehicle without the owner’s consent from January. It was unclear whether both cases were Mack.
