Meanwhile, President Biden’s candidate for ATF director David Chipman is no stranger to scandals. He came under fire for lies he told about the Branch Davidian siege in Waco, Texas. There’s the fact that he was a paid lobbyist for Giffords and Everytown, advocating for FFLs to be closed and not considered “essential business” during the COVID lockdown. He is also accused of making racist statements about black colleagues during his time at the ATF.

But now Chipman has two more scandals to add to the list.

Chipman allegedly accused a black ATF agent of lying about a rating used for promotions, which the Justice Department upheld, The Reload reported. According to the agent, Chipman allegedly alleged wrongdoing, the investigation lasted two years and he was eventually acquitted of any wrongdoing.

“I couldn’t believe it when it happened,” the agent told The Reload. “But when I read of his other comments, I was thinking like ‘that wanker’ in my head. That’s what happened. He said, “Hey, a lot of African Americans have qualified to be promoted on this certification list; they must have cheated. ‘ And then he had to go and find one. I happened to be the one. “

He said he believed Chipman’s claim was motivated by the race after the personal test.

“I think it must have been a bias,” said the agent, who has been with the agency for more than 25 years. “My answers were just ‘too good’. And I thought he was just saying, ‘That black guy couldn’t have answered that well if he hadn’t cheated.’ “

Chipman’s accusation adversely affected the agent’s ability to advance his career. He stayed with ATF after the Inspector General’s office acquitted him of any wrongdoing, but never moved to senior management.

“It’s been a long career and I’ve enjoyed my career,” he said. “It wasn’t until later in my career that I said, ‘Okay, maybe I’ll look at middle management,’ because I had a lot of field and leadership experience, as well as program management experience. And I love that stuff. I thought, ‘Maybe I can do this until I retire.’

“But that didn’t happen because of Mr. Chipman.”

As if that weren’t enough, Chipman reportedly failed to alert the Senate Judiciary Committee to a 2019 talk he gave with the Cadwalader law firm. CNN (of all people) discovered the lecture entitled “Can the right to own guns coexist with gun control?” Meanwhile, Chipman took the “conservative bunch” that he said made up a large part of the ATF.

“If you are authentic in this area, you will likely disappoint a lot of people,” Chipman said at his November 2019 gun control event at the Cadwalader law firm when asked how ATF agents felt about his work. “I think we need to understand that law enforcement in general is a very conservative bunch, mostly made up of white men. So, the politics of this issue as it is somehow permeates it. I don’t think my views are typical. “

“I think I can answer that,” he continued. “I think when I connect with law enforcement I think my progressive colleagues are at a point where they understand that on gun violence we need sticks, what law enforcement is, some people have to do that.” , but we also recognize that we need carrots. That community violence intervention programs work and that we have to do both. We have to give people options. “

David Chipman is a terrible candidate for the ATF, possibly the worst candidate since the agency was founded. We have seen time and again that he is a gun control zealot looking to move his cause forward, including disarming law-abiding Americans. Not only does he want the Second Amendment a thing of the past, but he’s also a racist, according to confirmed reports, likely targeting black and brown gun owners … not to mention ATF staff.

How many red flags from Chipman’s past will have to be hoisted before the Democrats and the White House realize his nomination is no longer sustainable? Or will they continue to turn a blind eye to all the misconduct and misconduct, pretend Chipman has a great badge, and keep trying to get his nomination through?
