Delaware State Police Arrest Wilmington Man for DUI and Weapon Charges After Traffic Cease- Claymont – Delaware State Police

Claymont The Delaware State Police arrested the 35-year-old Martwain Johnston from Wilmington on DUI and gun charges following a traffic obstruction this morning.
At approximately 1:31 a.m. on March 21, 2021, a soldier on patrol observed a gray Honda Accord traveling at high speed north along the Cauffiel Parkway area to Philadelphia Pike. A traffic obstruction was initiated and contact was made with the operator and sole occupant Martwain Johnston. Upon contact, the soldier noticed a smell of alcoholic beverages and a DUI investigation followed.
Johnston was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search in Johnston’s vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm Taurus pistol.
Johnston was then transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Carrying a hidden deadly weapon a firearm (crime)
- Possessing a firearm under the influence
- Driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol
- Over speeding
- Failure to stay within a single lane
Johnston was tried in the No. 11 Magistrate’s Court and was released on an unsecured loan of $ 5,300.00.
