DeWalt 20V Max Wireless Power Purifier Review | DCPW550
We know power washers aren’t as powerful as pressure washers, but they have their uses and have caught on with home improvement brands. If so, why would a professional brand like DeWalt make one? We take a closer look at the DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Battery Cleaner to find out.
- Much higher water volume than competitors
- Higher pressure than most
- 2-course selection
- Onboard nozzle memory
- Runs on any DeWalt 20V Max or FlexVolt battery
- Heavier than most of its competitors
- No seal on the battery compartment
DeWalt 20V Max. Power of the cordless power cleaner
The DeWalt DCPW550 is able to generate 550 PSI with the supplied 15 ° nozzle. You get 1.0 GPM with the same nozzle. However, you can actually get up to 2.2 GPM with less pressure and that’s more than double what most power cleaners offer.
This is great, but if you are new to power cleaners it might not mean a lot.
As with pressure washers, it is the combination of pressure and flow that enables efficient cleaning. The pressure loosens the dirt and the flow of water washes it away. The fact that DeWalt is near the top in pressure and at the top in water flow means you’re getting a more efficient power-clean than any of its competitors.
That said, you won’t pressure wash your driveway with this tool. Instead, this is a great tool for using more pressure than you can get from a hose nozzle to clean things a pressure washer might be too powerful for. Here are a handful of things that are safe to clean (but there are a lot more!):
- ATVs / UTVs
- Dirty boots
- Wicker or garden furniture
DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Power Cleaner Design Notes
height and weight
Power washers like the DeWalt DCPW550 aren’t much bigger than a pressure washer. It measures 40.5 inches from tip to tail.
Its weight is a bit heavier for this tool class – 7.4 pounds with a 5.0 Ah battery. As a two-handed tool, it is not that tedious. For the way we use it, we would much rather have the higher performance DeWalt than trade it in for a little less weight.
This is one of only a handful of multi-speed models. High gives you the best performance and Low extends your life. We have a lot of DeWalt batteries, so we don’t worry too much about conserving the battery and running at full speed all the time.
No pressure required
One of the great advantages of pressure washers is that they don’t require a source of pressurized water to work like pressure washers. DeWalt includes a 20-foot siphon hose with both the bare tools and the kit. Drop it into a bucket of water, a drum, a rain barrel, or even the lake. As long as it’s a freshwater source, you’re good to go.
You can also work with a standard hose if it is more convenient and a quick adapter is included in the package.
DeWalt takes an unusual step by using standard pressure washer nozzles instead of the rotating nozzles that are included with most power washers. We are really good with this call, especially since you can keep 3 spare parts on the tool yourself.
It comes with 15 °, 25 °, 40 ° and turbo nozzles, so with one on the wand you have everything you need when you need to make a change in the blink of an eye.
Water + electricity
The idea of running such a tool and splashing water around sounds like a bad idea for the batteries. DeWalt takes care of it neatly with a battery cover to protect it. There is no seal around it, however, so it’s really just a splash guard.
We checked the batteries up to a 12.0 Ah FlexVolt pack and they all fit well.
- Soap bottle included
- Including storage bag
- Compatible with all DeWalt 20V Max and FlexVolt batteries
DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Power Purifier Price
The bare tool (DeWalt DCPW550B) costs $ 149 and the kit (DeWalt DCPW550P1) costs $ 199. In any case, you will receive the siphon hose, the nozzles, the hose adapter, the soap bottle and the storage bag. The kit adds a 5.0 Ah battery and charger to the mix. When we first saw the prices we assumed the kit had a 2.0Ah battery, so we’re pretty excited to see the 5.0Ah battery instead.
The bottom line
There are many uses for the DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Cordless Cleaner, from cleaning at work to cleaning on your next adventure. Remember what a power washer is supposed to do compared to a pressure washer, and it will be a valuable addition to your home or business. Considering what the competition has to offer, DeWalt has the best wireless power cleaner available today.
