Ex-Clemson CB Derion Kendrick arrested
A former Clemson cornerback, who was the All-ACC first team last season, is on trial in South Carolina on gun and drug charges after being alone in a car with one at 3 a.m. on Friday, according to the Rock Hill Herald Gun fell asleep on his lap.
Derion Kendrick, 20, was arrested and charged with illegally carrying a pistol. After a small amount of the drug was discovered and confiscated, he made a quote for simply possessing marijuana, police told the media company.
“He was asleep in his girlfriend’s vehicle with a black Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol on his lap,” said the arrest warrant received from the Herald.
If convicted of gun charges, Kendrick faces a prison sentence of up to a year under state law. He doesn’t have a hidden gun license.
Kendrick was fired from the Clemson program for reasons unknown last month and subsequently entered the NCAA transfer portal. It is unclear whether he will remain enrolled as a student.
“Really not much to say other than he’s not with us anymore, but also to say that I love DK,” said Clemson coach Dabo Swinney earlier this off-season. “Man, he’s a young man I’ve always loved as a soccer player. He has a really good heart. He’s never been a disrespectful young man or anything. Sometimes there just has to be one change. “
Kendrick, a five-star recruit from 2018, played nine games with eight starts for the 2020 runners-up. He was banned from the team for at least one game in the fall, and Swinney hinted at the time that this was with the lack of Had to do academic work.
Kendrick has been identified as a potential early round design choice in 2021, but has opted for a senior season. When he left Clemson, he became a high-end transfer target. Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas and the TCU have expressed an interest, according to a 247Sports report.
