Hexmag AR15 Magazine Gets a New, Functional Update

Eve Flanigan 02.18.21

The Hexmag has become a popular choice in the ever growing polymer AR magazine category. Its characteristic honeycomb shape gives it an unmistakable appearance, which can be an advantage for quick identification between mixed magazines. Even such a unique magazine is sometimes ripe for an upgrade, and hexmag maker Sentry has just announced a big one. The Hexmag is now available in a carbon fiber blend. Here’s what Sentry says about their innovative magazine:

After acquiring the Hexmag brand in 2017, Virginia Beach-based SENTRY Products Group set out to refine and expand its magazine and gun accessories line. The latest advancement is SENTRY’s carbon fiber AR-15 magazine, which is made from a proprietary carbon fiber composite blended with our Polyhex2 polymer, offering exceptional durability and consistent performance. While Hexmag’s polymer magazines are known for exceptional reliability and resilience, the introduction of carbon fiber significantly increases overall strength and rigidity, which further improves performance. An additional benefit for the end user is that carbon fiber reduces the total weight by 20 percent compared to the standard magazine.

As with all Hexmag products, the new Carbon-AR-15 Mag has the patented hexture pattern for a secure and positive hold, regardless of the ambient conditions. With the industry’s first toolless takedown design, magazines are easy to clean and maintain. A heat-treated stainless steel spring prevents corrosion and resists fatigue even with prolonged loads. The adjustment can be done via Hexmag’s true riser system to create state-compliant configurations with 10, 15 and 30 rounds. With the SENTRY HexID color identification system, the user can quickly identify the caliber and ammunition type via the coded security system with clearly visible followers and locking plate.

Given the unprecedented ammunition shortage, it’s easy to imagine magazines could follow, as has happened in the past. Hence, it is also easy to justify buying the new Hexmag sooner rather than later. It’s available in black with an MSRP of $ 21.99 through Midway, RSR, and the SENTRY website http://www.sentrytactical.com.
