Kenya: High Court Judge Sends DCI Boss George Kinoti to Prison

A Nairobi court on Thursday ordered criminal investigation officer George Kinoti to spend four months in jail for failing to comply with a court order.

The DCI chief must present himself to prison authorities within seven days.

The verdicts came after Mr. Kinoti opposed a court order that forced him to return the firearms confiscated from businessman Jimi Wanjigi.

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Mrima also instructed Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to issue the warrant for Mr. Kinoti if he did not present himself to prison officials within the prescribed time.

The disregard for the court ruling against Kinoti comes after he failed to appear in court in September after the judge was summoned.

In February of that year, the Kinoti Court gave 30 days to return Mr. Wanjigi’s firearms, as ordered by Judge Chacha Mwita on June 21, 2019.

The firearms seized include a pistol (make Smith and Wesson), a Glock pistol, a laser-mounted assault rifle (make Mini Archer), a Glock 19 pistol, and an assault rifle (make M4CQ).
