Local Information: Cape man arrested in connection with June robbery (2/11/21)
A Cape Girardeau man was booked into the Cape Girardeau County sheriff’s office for robbery in an incident last summer.
Austin D. LaRose, 18, was arrested Friday for robbery and armed criminal activity.
The victim of the robbery, Sgt. Travis Sikes, reportedly snuck out of his home around 12:45 p.m. on June 10 to meet with LaRose and an unidentified youth. The victim was picked up in a silver Chrysler 200 driven by an unknown man and woman. LaRose and the teen were in the back seat.
The victim told officers that they let him drive to several ATMs for gasoline money, but his debit card was denied, according to the statement. He was then taken back to his neighborhood and dropped off a short distance from his house with LaRose and the youth.
When LaRose and the teen were outside the vehicle, both allegedly pulled black semi-automatic pistols from their waistbands and asked the victim to empty his pockets. The victim told officials the duo stole two Juul vape pads, a large bottle of vape juice, a pocket knife and two $ 141 worth of e-cigarettes.
Officers later questioned the driver and passenger of the vehicle that picked up the victim. The two said LaRose and the teen got out of the vehicle with the victim and stood outside in the back of the car for a moment before re-entering. Neither the driver nor the passenger knew that the victim was being robbed until the youth informed them the next day.
LaRose is charged with Class A crime of first degree robbery and the unclassified crime of armed criminal acts. He is being held in Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $ 150,000 bond issue.
