Lorain man charged in marijuana, gun incident

According to a Lorain police report, a Lorain man has been charged several times for throwing a loaded pistol out of a car window when officers tried to stop him in early March.

Manuelito J. Rivera-Lopez, 21, was carrying three bags containing 34.1 grams of marijuana and $ 8,425 in cash when officers ran over the 2008 silver Honda Accord he drove at around 1:15 a.m. on March 21 .

The officers on the 2400 block on Elyria Avenue followed the car south on Elyria Avenue and eventually stopped at the intersection of East 28th Street and Apple Avenue. Rivera-Lopez was the sole inmate, and police found the 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with 25 rounds in a treelawn on Apple Avenue, the report said.

Rivera-Lopez has been accused of having no license plate light, not driving in marked lanes, breaking the police force, obstructing official business, manipulating evidence, mishandling a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a hidden weapon, and handicapped weapons having had possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and driving without a license, according to police report.

Youth arrested for possession of weapons

A 17-year-old Lorain youth was arrested for allegedly carrying a gun and marijuana near East 29th Street and Pearl Avenue in late March. This emerges from a police report by Lorain.

Officers were sent to the area to get a report on a teenage man who had a gun tucked into his waistband.

The police found three teenagers and searched them. The one whose clothes matched a description of the call carried the 9mm pistol and 4.9 grams of marijuana, the report said.

The youth were charged with delinquency for carrying a hidden weapon and possessing marijuana. He was taken to the Lorain County Detention Center.

The other two boys, ages 15 and 14, were not cited, the report said.
