Man under the influence of something tried stumbling to Fields Corner with a loaded gun, police say

Boston police report they arrested a man they said had a ten-round gun loaded while struggling to get down Geneva Avenue and Westville Street on Sunday morning.

A sergeant responding to a report by a man with a gun on Bowdoin Street and Geneva Avenue around 10:15 a.m. found the man to be under the influence of alcohol or other substance several blocks away on Westville Street on Draper Street “say the police.

The sergeant searched the man and found an SCCY, CPX-1 9mm rifle with one cartridge in the chamber and nine in the magazine in the man’s waistband, police said.

Steven Gomes, 37, of Dorchester, has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm with an illegible serial number, police said.
