Firearm ammunition manufacturer Norma Precision announced it would construct a $60 million facility in Bryan County, Georgia, to produce and ship ammunition.
The company said the project would create 600 jobs. According to a Norma spokesperson, the company will offer transfers to 88 workers currently employed in Georgia. Employees at the plant will earn an average annual wage of $57,000.
The development comes a year after Norma imported more than 400 containers of ammunition from European factories. Additionally, the company delivered approximately 30 million cartridges of ammunition manufactured in the US
Norma is eligible for a Georgia tax credit, which allows it to deduct up to $10.5 million from state income taxes over five years. The company also received a 10-year property tax break from county officials worth up to $2.7 million.
Italian gun maker Beretta bought Norma in July following an announcement that the ammunition maker would establish its headquarters in Georgia. Beretta has reported about $510 million in global ammunition sales. The project continues the trend of gun and ammunition manufacturers relocating to southern and western regions of the US
Last year, Remington Firearms moved from New York to Georgia and announced it would invest $100 million and hire 856 workers in five years. Smith & Wesson also revealed it would move its headquarters from Massachusetts to Tennessee as part of a $125 million investment expected to create 750 jobs.
