MERIDEN — Police seized about $282,000 in cash along with firearms and almost 14 ounces of cocaine during a search of a house that was under surveillance. A city man coming out of the house was also arrested.
Miguel Acevedo, 38, of 15 Union St., was charged Monday with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to give proper signal.
On Monday, the crime suppression unit was conducting narcotic-related surveillance in the area of North Avenue and South Avenue when police saw a car leaving 54 South Ave., a “known location for drug activity,” police spokesman Lt. Darrin McKay said in a statement.
Police identified the driver as Acevedo, who told them he had drugs in his possession, according to the statement.
After Acevedo was taken into custody, police obtained a search warrant for 54 South Ave. During a search, officers found two loaded Glock firearms, two magazines of ammunition, a total of about 397 grams of crack cocaine, about $282,000 in cash, and 217 rounds of ammunition.
“This investigation resulted in a substantial seizure, and it is yet another example of the exemplary police work that is being done by the members of our agency in order to help make our community a safer place to live and work,” McKay said.
Acevedo was released on $250,000 bond. His court date was not immediately available.
