Men arrested had enough fentanyl to kill 250K people;  Local counties crack down on drugs

STANLY COUNTY, NC (WBTV) – Two men were arrested over the weekend after they were found to have been in possession of enough uncut fentanyl to potentially kill 250,000 people.

Luis Angel Ventura Castro, 21, and Omar Garcia Luna, 20, were arrested following a joint operation between the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office and the Norwood Police Department.

The two men were found to have been in possession of 517 grams of the substance, which carried a street value of $258,000.

Both Castro and Luna are being charged with two counts of Level 3 trafficking opium, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver opium, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They are currently being held in the Stanly County Jail with a $1 million bond, and are scheduled to be in court on Oct. 24

Gastonia Police Department

The Gastonia Police Department says officers arrested a 29-year-old man after responding to reports of shots fired in the area of ​​May Street.

Inside the man’s apartment, police say they found more than $34,000 in cash, three handguns with one reported stolen, 150 suspected fentanyl pills, 10 grams of suspected fentanyl powder, 13 pills of suspected MDMA/fentanyl, 250 grams of suspected marijuana, 3.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, total of 268 rounds of ammunition consisting of a mixture of handgun, rifle and shotgun rounds, and tactical-style body armor.

Chester County Sheriff’s Office

In conjunction with ATF, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office says they were able to recover multiple drugs and illegal firearms on Myrtle Avenue. Officials say their investigation started last month.

Andrew Jimar Mack was arrested and accused of distributing devices known as “Glock switches,” which, according to deputies, convert standard Glock firearms into fully automatic weapons.

He also faces the following charges including trafficking crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and possession with intent to distribute pressed fentanyl pills.

Catawba County Sheriff’s Office

A 41-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after the Claremont Police Department, Hickory Police Department and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office worked together to execute a search warrant at a home on Martin Lane in Claremont.

During the search, authorities seized approximately 19 grams of cocaine, 244 grams of marijuana, $2,192 in currency and multiple firearms.

The man is currently being charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
