disadvantage

Masterforce Boost angle grinder performance

This grinder has 9,000 RPM on the high end and a six speed selector that gives control all the way down to 3,500 on the low end. Sometimes the question arises why a variable speed is important at all. Not everyone needs it, but the option for better control and more precise material removal is nice.

If you are familiar with the Masterforce range, you may find that this model and the brushed battery model both have the same maximum speed of 9,000 rpm. The big difference you’ll notice is how much better the Boost grinder holds up its revs when you apply pressure. Without question, it is capable of cutting, grinding, and polishing much faster.

As expected, this grinder also coped with normal grinding and polishing with no problems and even put on an impressive show cutting 1/4 inch mild steel panels.

We experienced a couple of binds as we got used to the amount of pressure we could put into the cuts, and the built-in kickback protection quickly stopped rotation. This kickback control is a nice feature on this model. We expect it with premium models, but not every high-quality brand uses it.

Our tests were all done with a 2.5Ah Boost 20V battery, which worked well overall and kept weight under control. However, combining it with Boost 5.0Ah or Boost 7.5Ah is the way to go if you have a lot of work to do with this tool.

Design notes for Masterforce Boost angle grinders

ergonomics

To me, the Masterforce Boost angle grinder feels solid in my medium-sized hands. The rubber overmolded handle is about 1.5 inches wide and 2.25 inches thick, so it’s definitely manageable even if your hands are a little smaller.

We really like that Masterforce adds a top handle position that matches its left and right positions to make vertical cutting and sanding easier. The side handle itself has a vibration reducing design with an isolated section to dampen vibrations before they reach your hand.

Masterforce Boost Angle Grinder Top Handle

Triggered

Masterforce opts for a paddle switch as opposed to a slide switch. Some brands offer both styles, but this is the only option for this version.

On guard

Since this 20v sander can handle both 4 1/2 and 5 inch discs, Masterforce includes two steel guards for regular sanding discs and plastic covers for safer use with cutting discs.

As we would expect, the guard is adjustable so that the wheel locks into place at any desired working angle. To rotate the guard, pull the latch up, rotate the guard to the desired position, and lock it again.

As with most grinders, there is a wrench for changing the wheels. If you lose it or just don’t want to use it, watch this video for alternative ways to swap it out.
