Milwaukee M18 Fuel Utility Fence Stapler

Fresh out of the press, the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Utility Fencing Stapler is making us buzz today. Instead of manually hammering brackets, this promises to make the job much, much easier.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Utility Fencing Stapler | What we know so far

The first thing we wanted to know was the strength of this folder. The fact that these can fire 9 gauge staples is a big deal. 10-gauge staples are easier to fire and there have only been a few other successful 9-gauge models to date. Stockade has a gas cartridge / battery model and DeWalt has a battery-only version.

As an M18 Fuel product, Milwaukee uses its brushless motor technology for better performance and run time, and the run time estimates are impressive. Milwaukee tells us that we can expect up to 600 staples per charge with just one 3.0Ah high capacity battery. For most people, that’s an all-day run without adding weight with a higher capacity battery.

In terms of speed, Milwaukee claims you can set your staples up to six times faster than manual hammering. It also has the power to sink into sturdy power poles and fence posts.

The overall shape of the tool differs from Milwaukee’s cordless framing nailer. The grip area is specially designed to make it easy for you to work when wearing leather or insulated gloves, which are necessary for working in the utility area. There is also a large lanyard to hold the tool on while you are off the floor.

This is all great news for utility workers and linemen, but welcome news for the agricultural sector as well. Our friend Eli Mosely is already nibbling at getting his hands on this for the new fences and repairs he has to do on the ranch.

Milwaukee staples only

Here’s the caveat: you’ll need to use Milwaukee’s staples with this nailer. They have a diamond crown shape specially designed for the drive mechanism of this nailer. With these cordless staplers, we had to buy tool-specific staples before, so that’s not a big surprise.

Look for Milwaukee 9-gauge staples in lengths of 1 1/2, 1 3/4, and 2 inches. Here’s the skinny on those:

  • Galvanized
  • Barbed and coated divergent legs
  • Diamond crown design
  • Compatible with the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Utilty fence stapler only
