Man charged in homicide on Turnpike Road in Portsmouth

A man has been charged with murder in connection with a homicide on Turnpike Road in Portsmouth, police stated in a release.

The investigation began Wednesday afternoon after officers responded to a shooting at the 3300 block of Turnpike Road, in southeastern Midtown near the Interstate 264 and Highway 17 interchange. Mikeous Freeman, 29, was found dead at the scene. A second man was injured and he was taken to the hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Kip Jones II, 26, is charged with second-degree murder, the use of a firearm in commission of a felony and shooting inside a building.

Jones is being held at Portsmouth City Jail, according to Portsmouth police.
