New Milford PD: ‘Agitated’ Pulled-Over Pickup Driver Packed Loaded Pistol

An “excited” Virginia driver had a loaded gun in the cab of his pickup truck when New Milford police pulled him up before Friday morning, authorities said.

Officer Nicholas Williams stopped the truck on River Road near Clinton Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. for multiple violations, said Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders.

He was assisted by Officer Andrew Lignos and Sgt. Bryan Mone.

The driver, Michael Colvin, 24, of Portsmouth, VA, immediately became “upset and confronted officers at the stop,” said Van Saders.

Colvin initially refused to get out of the vehicle, but then followed, the lieutenant said.

On the driver’s side of the truck, police found a 9mm SCCY pistol loaded with eight cartridges, he said.

Colvin stayed in Bergen County Jail on Friday until his first appearance in the Central Judicial Processing Court on gun charges as well as a high capacity magazine.
