Paterson man with loaded handgun arrested at Secaucus resort: police

After a tip, Secaucus police responded to a hotel on Meadowlands Parkway and arrested a Paterson man who was carrying a loaded pistol.

Damere Demarest, 28, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and pistol ammunition in the March 21 incident at the Red Roof Inn, said Dennis Miller, Secaucus police chief.

The tipster reported a “man with a gun” in a vehicle in the hotel parking lot. At 7:06 a.m. that day, the police found Demarest, as described, and found that he was in possession of a loaded 9mm SCCY CPX-2 pistol. Demarest was arrested and taken to Hudson County Jail.

“I welcome the tipster in this case for having the courage to report suspected criminal activity to the police,” said Miller. “I am also grateful that this arrest was made and that a firearm was confiscated without any of the police officers responding having to use force.”
