Police: Paterson Man Busted With Loaded Handgun At Secaucus Motel

A 28-year-old Paterson man was blown up with a loaded gun in the parking lot of a Secaucus motel early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Police, responding to reports from a man with a gun on the Red Roof Inn on Meadowlands Parkway, found Damere Demarest, who was as described, in a vehicle in the parking lot around 7:05 a.m., Secaucus police chief Dennis Miller said .

A loaded 9mm SCCY CPX-2 pistol was recovered from Demarest, who was subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of pistol ammunition and possession of a firearm, the chief said.

“I welcome the tipster in this case for having the courage to report suspected criminal activity to the police,” said Miller. “I am also grateful that this arrest was made and that a firearm was confiscated without any of the police officers responding having to use force.”
