Police say Utica man choked, threatened to shoot woman

UTICA – Police officers say a loaded pistol was confiscated Friday night after a dispute on the west side of Utica.

Police said Ezra McClain, 39, of Utica, had an argument with his girlfriend at a residence on Richardson Avenue around 7:20 p.m.

Police said McClain suffocated the woman and threatened to shoot her during the argument.

The officers replied and contacted the friend at home.

Police said McClain eventually went down to the basement and officers went in, then met him near the back of the residence.

Police said McClain escaped a back door and was arrested shortly afterwards.

The basement was searched and police said they found a loaded 9mm pistol and two expanded magazines, law enforcement officials said.

McClain is charged with second degree harassment, criminal respiratory impairment, criminal possession of a firearm, and second and third possession of a gun.

He is due to appear in Utica City Court, law enforcement officials added.
