The Ryobi Cut-Off Tool offers excellent control in a compact design

The Ryobi 18V One + Cut-Off Tool complements the HP Compact range and fills a gap for compact cutting with multiple materials. It is a versatile saw that has many uses for the home improvement and general craftsman.

benefits

  • Lighter and easier to use than a grinder
  • Adjustable cutting depth
  • Super fast electric brake stops the bike in less than a second
  • Two LEDs light up on both sides of the wheel

disadvantage

  • A shallow cutting depth limits the use

recommendation

Ryobi’s cordless parting tool is a great tool to add to your angle grinder in tighter areas or when you just want more control. It’s great for cutting thin to medium metal and is also a great choice if you’re precisely cutting tile, vinyl, cement board, or drywall.

Why use a cordless cutting tool?

As cut-off tools go deeper into the market, it’s natural to wonder what on earth to do with one. After all, it’s basically a circular saw grinder. So why not just use a grinder?

The short answer is that the tool is more compact and easier to manage. Yes, it only has 3 inches of wheel capacity and doesn’t cut very deep. But it doesn’t have to be.

With diamond or grinding wheels, it is a metal cutting specialist that can also process plastics, vinyl, cement boards, tiles and others. While making long or serial cuts is a job for another tool, it becomes tighter areas and gives you more control than other hand-held cutting tools.

performance

This Ryobi wireless shutdown tool uses a brushless motor to turn the wheel at 19,500 rpm. Unlike most sanders, it has a forward / reverse switch that allows you to direct sparks in the most convenient direction.

There is also a wire base that you can use to stabilize the tool against the material being cut and control the depth of cut.

As soon as you take your finger off the trigger, the wheel will stop in less than a second. That’s pretty impressive!

Ryobi 18V cutting tool

We tested it on a boat trailer that we converted to a swing tongue. To make sure the 3 inch square tube was properly aligned we needed an accurate cut and weren’t interested in completely removing the tube first. We also wanted to cut off the corners of the aluminum frame to reduce the risk of injury.

So we marked our cutting lines and started cutting. The handle and wheel alignment made it easy to keep an eye on the line as you cut. While a reciprocating saw or grinding machine would have been faster, we achieved the desired accuracy without any problems. Getting it right the first time didn’t mean wasting time on rework.

Ryobi 18V One + HP Compact Brushless Cutting Tool Rating PSBCS02B

Since we’ve gone beyond our original trailer project, we find that sometimes we instinctively reach for this clipping tool. The lower weight and less control make for a more comfortable cutting experience. So we use it on many of our smaller or thinner cuts when it makes sense.

Additional functions

  • In dark areas, two LEDs light up on both sides of the wheel
  • 8.5 cm long
  • Weighs 2.8 pounds with a 1.5 Ah battery
  • Maximum depth of cut of 0.62 in

price

The Ryobi 18V One + HP Compact Cut-Off Tool is $ 99 at Home Depot. As a tool that compliments other members of the 18V One + family, we don’t expect a kit option.

The bottom line

Ryobi’s cordless parting tool is a great tool to add to your angle grinder in tighter areas or when you just want more control. It’s great for cutting thin to medium metal and is also a great choice if you’re precisely cutting tile, vinyl, cement board, or drywall.
