Secaucus PD Arrest Man With Loaded Gun In Red Roof Parking Lot

SECAUCUS, NJ – A Paterson man was arrested at the Secaucus Red Roof Inn early Sunday morning after an eyewitness called police to report he had a gun.

At 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 21, Secaucus police responded to the Red Roof Inn report from a “man with a gun” in a car in the parking lot.

Upon arrival, police officers located Damere Demarest that matched the caller’s description. Demarest, 28, from Paterson, is said to be carrying a loaded 9mm SCCY CPX-2 pistol, police said.

He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and pistol ammunition.

“I welcome the tipster in this case for having the courage to report suspected criminal activity to the police,” said Dennis Miller, chief of police at Secaucus. “I am also grateful that this arrest was made and that a firearm was confiscated without any of the police officers responding having to use force.”
