Shooting Sports USA | New: Springfield Armory HEX Red-Dot Optics
Shooters have new red dot sight options in Springfield Armory’s recently announced HEX Optics line. The company says HEX is a special project “to develop superior optical support for your firearms”. HEX debuts with two red dot reflex sight options priced under $ 300: the Wasp, a concealed, direct mount, micro red dot sight, and its big brother, the Dragonfly, a standard-size red dot with the versatility for multiple shooting platforms .
HEX Wasp ($ 299).
As mentioned earlier, the HEX Wasp ($ 299) works well for compact uses like concealed carry pistols and offset rifle attachment. The red point itself is a 3.5 MOA point. For customization, the Wasp offers 0.5 MOA per click for a total of 90 MOA for drag and altitude. The wasp is precision-made from 6061 T6 hardcoat anodized aluminum and equipped with a scratch-resistant, glare-free glass lens. Plus, it’s always on and has an auto-dimming sensor to regulate point brightness based on ambient light conditions.
The HEX Wasp red dot optic is 1.6 inches in total length and weighs 0.7 ounces.
The website states that the Wasp’s battery life is around two years. The Wasp has a Springfield Micro footprint (Shield RMSc) which has become the standard due to the popularity of the Springfield Armory Hellcat. In addition, the wasp comes with an Allen key, a Torx key, a CR2032 battery, a sealing plate and three sets of screws.
HEX Dragonfly ($ 249).
Much like its smaller stablemate, the HEX Dragonfly ($ 249) has a 3.5 MOA red dot, but in a standard size. The Dragonfly is considered the “more versatile reflex sight” and is suitable for most pistol, rifle and shotgun applications. It fits on the footprints of Springfield Standard, Vortex Venom and Burris FastFire. The setting level is 1 MOA per click for a total of 160 MOA for air resistance and altitude. Eight levels of manual brightness adjustment offer a high level of control, and the 16-hour auto-off function prevents the battery from running down if you accidentally leave it on.
The overall length of the HEX Dragonfly is 1.9 inches and it weighs 1.2 ounces.
Like the wasp, the dragonfly is also precision-made from 6061 T6 hardcoat anodized aluminum and equipped with a scratch-resistant, glare-free glass lens. The scope of delivery of the dragonfly includes a Picatinny bracket, an Allen key, a Torx key, a CR2032 battery, a sealing plate and three sets of screws.
