Three Georgia officers injured after suspect opened fire with AK-47 during chase

Georgia police released a dashcam video Thursday showing the events of a shooting earlier this week in which three officers were wounded after a suspect opened fire during an AK-47 chase.

Local news partner 11 Alive reported Wednesday that the video released by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office begins Monday at a police traffic stop due to police officers stopping a car on a freeway at a speed of 111 mph.

The car sped away from officers after it was stopped, and an occupant of the vehicle opened fire on officers and deactivated a patrol car with the gun after police tried to stop the fleeing vehicle. The chase continued and two more were shot in, including an officer who was hit in the head while driving and his car hit a stake; He was flown to a nearby hospital where he is reportedly recovering well.

Law enforcement officers from three agencies including the Carrolton Police Department, the Villa Rica Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the chase.

One suspect was killed on the scene and identified as Pier Alexander Shelton, 28, while his cousin, Aaron Jajuan Shelton, 22, was arrested and detained apparently unharmed.

“Without the heroic efforts of all officers and authorities involved, as well as Corporal Troutt and Deputy Repetto, to stop the suspect, this incident could have resulted in more officers being injured or killed and the suspects posing an even greater threat to the public Since this was done in a residential area, and at this time of the morning, people are preparing for work and staff are preparing to arrive at school, “the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to 11 Alive .
