Wanted man nabbed after brief exchange of fire in east Delhi
New Delhi, March 18 (PTI) A 25-year-old man who shot two police officers last month was arrested by the Delhi police special cell after a brief exchange of fire here, officials said Thursday.
Adil aka Shakeel, a resident of Delhi’s Akbarpur Majra, was a “notorious kidnapper” and was caught in Ghazipur, east Delhi, they said.
A total of five shots were fired during the shooting, in which Adil was injured in his right leg and taken to a nearby hospital, including two by police in self-defense.
Police Deputy Superintendent (Special Cell) Pramod Kumar Kushwah said Adil was wanted in a registered case after he shot two police officers during a vehicle inspection at a police station at Bhalswa Dairy.
Adil and his two co-workers opened fire when the police tried to stop them. Constable Sandeep was seriously injured during the February 25 incident, the chief officer said.
Two of Adil’s employees, including a youth, were caught by police in the northern suburbs after a March 1 shooting, he said.
“On Wednesday evening, Inspector Shiv Kumar got a lead on Adil and accordingly we set a trap near the DDA park in the Ghazipur area.
“When the team discovered the defendant arriving on a motorcycle, he was asked to surrender. Instead, he pulled out his pistol and shot the police team. In self-defense, the team shot back and injured Adil in the right leg,” said Kushwah.
Police recovered a semi-automatic pistol with three live cartridges, five empty cartridges and a motorcycle from him. PTI AMP TDS TDS
